Interview: Andrea Estella of Twin Sister talks P4K, Hipster Runoff and Tiny Barbie Heads
I saw that you used to work at Edible Arrangements. If Pitchfork Music Festival was an Edible Arrangement, what would it be?
A Delicious Party, which serves about 100. There is pineapple and chocolate-covered strawberries. They would have a music note container that would be the music arrangement and music note cutouts of pineapple, I guess … guitars and chocolate-covered bananas, bullshit like that.
Did you like working there?
Not really. Not that much. I was mostly a delivery driver.
What was your dream job when you were a kid?
Never had a dream job. Never liked the word “jobs.”I think of this as not being a job. I like what I’m doing now.
You’re really into dollhouses.
I don’t really have doll houses, but I have a lot of miniature stuff. I have a whole jar full of little tiny stuff. What happened [when we made our album cover] was we found this dollhouse on the side of the road and I had a bunch of tiny shit so I decided to try to make a miniature house.
How do you feel about Hipster Runoff having a whole tag about you on his website?
I didn’t even know about it. I feel bad. I don’t even look around the internet much.
One is about you having endless legs.
Yeah I have seen that. That’s so funny. He showed up to our show in New Orleans and I didn’t really know much about him. I’ve seen a couple things my band mates shown me that were pretty funny. He seems like a funny guy. I like his writing.
If you had to write about him, what would you say?
I would write about him being a mystery man cuz I don’t even know what he looks like. I didn’t even know his real name when I put him on the list. I like him though.
Who are you excited to see at the festival? I want to see Ariel Pink. I don’t know if I’m going to have a lot of time to look around, but I hope Radio Department is playing.
Does Ariel Pink inspire your sound?
I could listen to his stuff for hours. When it sounds shitty, badly recorded – I love that.
Who are your favorite celebrity twins?
The Mothra twins from Godzilla. They’re very very tiny. I watched them all the time – they’re tiny and they speak in unison. They have their own album from Japan that was popular … I think they’re called “The Peanuts.”
You seem to have a fascination with tiny things.
Tiny things are magical. I liked them a lot as a kid, like a crappy cheap toy that was so small and you just carried it around forever.
Did you like McDonald’s Happy Meal Barbies better than real ones?
Yeah … their tiny heads.
