Things To Realistically Expect When You Publish Writing on the Internet

-Don’t be offended when people haven’t read everything you wrote. Instead, be flattered  they read anything.

-A lot of people will click on a link or headline and then not read the article. That’s the reality of Internet browsing. You do it all the time too.

-People criticize everything creative. You will get told to “join the service industry” or “kill yourself.” This doesn’t mean what you’re doing is bad/unimportant.

-Certain posts that you love will be totally ignored. Certain ones that you thought were stupid will get thousands of hits. Traffic is totally schizophrenic.

-There is a natural human inclination to be wary of any creative people who think what they’re doing matters. People will resent what you do, just a little bit. Err on the side of humility.

-No matter how much positive response you get, it’s still just writing on the Internet. People will, for the most part, not care that much.
