Hello.
I think you both know why we’re here. We want to talk about some troublesome lyrics in your track, “Give Me Everything Tonight.” First, we want to talk about sensitivity. Do you understand why these lyrics might be inappropriate? Then we can talk about possible alternatives.
Several times throughout the song, you repeat the title, which in itself causes problems. The concept of “giving a man everything” is one we don’t feel comfortable mandating to young women, especially impressionable young women in the club. The context in which you use this lyric, such as “grab somebody sexy tell em, hey, give me everything tonight,” “I think you should let me because I look good tonight,” and “for all we know we might not get tomorrow” seem especially insistent.
First of all, we discourage the grabbing of the opposite sex. This is a surefire way to cause discomfort, or even fear. Secondly, the argument that the woman involved should allow sexual penetration because “you look good” and “we might not get tomorrow” are clear instances of using guilt to peer pressure. Also, we’re not sure they make sense.
Is all that clear? Ok, let’s talk about alternatives. We’ve consulted with our lawyer on staff and they’ve suggested a few.
Instead of “Give Me Everything Tonight,” they’ve suggested the following:
“Let’s Interact Sexually in a Way You Feel Comfortable with Tonight”
“I am Interested in Having Sexual Intercourse with You Tonight, But I Understand if You’re Not Ready for That.”
“Give Me Everything … When We Are in a Mutually-Respectful Loving Relationship and You Decide It’s Time to Express that In a Deeper Way.”
“Give Me a Kiss on the Cheek Tonight”
We hope one of these options will allow us to meet in the middle.
Finally, for the contextual lyrics, we’re offering these replacements:
-“Tap someone physically attractive on the shoulder and tell them, ‘Hey, you look wonderful this evening.’”
-“I think sexually penetrating you would be nice, and I try to look handsome so that you’ll consider me a possible sexual partner, in the future.”
-“For all we know, we might want to procreate together one day. We could also have sexual intercourse solely for pleasure, but it’s important to remember to use protection if that is our only goal.”
Got it? Thanks so much for attending this session. We hope that these new ideas will help you be more aware of the implications of your music, and the “hot water” it could get you into. Good luck with your song! We really like it.
